When you install an AG52 on a trailer, such as a dry-van trailer or flatbed, the 7-way cable utilizes the power interface from the pulling or towing vehicle to enable the AG52 to function in real time. The AG52 operates in battery-saving mode when not connected to trailer power. Review the Equipment and Dry-Van Trailer Cable Matrix for Powered Asset Gateways (AGs) to ensure you obtain the appropriate cable for your configuration.
Before you attempt installation of the AG52 on your trailer, ensure that the ABS is in good working order: after trailer startup, the ABS light comes on for 3 to 5 seconds during startup before it powers off. Any other outcome may indicate a problem with the trailer ABS system.
To install the AG52 for ABS systems on your dry-van trailer, use the following workflow:
-
Activate the device in your dashboard if you have not already done so.
Log into the Samsara dashboard or go to https://cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your

email. -
Turn off the power to the trailer.
-
Locate and disconnect the 5-pin ABS Weather-Pack ("TTMA") connector on your trailer from the 7-way cable (typically located near the rear axle). To locate the connector, trace the wire harness from the ABS unit.
-
Connect the male end of the Samsara cable to the 7-way connector and the female end of the Samsara cable to the ABS 5-pin connector. Ensure the connection is latched and secure.
-
Select the desired mounting location. For best GPS and cellular connectivity results, mount as close to the edge of the trailer as possible and consider the motion of the moving parts that may damage the device or the cables. If possible, test the device in the desired mounting location before installation.
Tip
When selecting a location for your device, reference the following tips:
-
Verify that the cable has adequate clearance to reach the AG and the electrical connection.
-
For the most reliable connectivity, ensure that the AG has at least one unobstructed side, facing the sky or ground, for example.
-
Avoid installing the device within metallic structures, such as within metal enclosures or trailers. Placement in such structures may adversely impact device cellular and GPS connectivity.
-
-
Mount the AG with the two provided screws or with screws less than or equal to #6 size, with a maximum torque of 7 kgf-cm.
-
Secure the wire harness every 30 to 50 cm using cable ties while ensuring that the cables are free from sharp edges, bending load, or tension.
-
Plug the cable into the AG and twist to lock.
-
Turn on power to the trailer.
-
Verify that the trailer's ABS light comes on for 3 to 5 seconds during startup before it powers off.
-
Perform the action that corresponds to the observed solid LED behavior:
Note
The LED illuminates for up to 30 minutes after you turn on the power to the trailer. If you do not observe the LED, disconnect and reconnect the power cable to reset the LED.
Status: Unsuccessful connection: Cellular connection fail, GPS fail
-
Ensure that the device is outside and avoid obstructions such as underground structures, heavily insulated buildings, bridges, and trees.
-
Ensure that the device has a clear view of the sky and is within cellular range.
-
Press and hold the button for 1-2 seconds and perform the action that corresponds to the observed LED behavior.
Status: Partial connection: Cellular connection OK, GPS fail
-
-
After approximately 2 minutes, confirm successful connection in your Samsara dashboard
-
For more information on ABS lamp faults in the Samsara dashboard, see Trailer ABS Visibility and Alerts or to configure an alert for ABS lamp codes, see Fault Code Alerts.
-
Manage the trailer from the Samsara dashboard.

Select the desired mounting location and clean thoroughly.
-
Attach the gateway to the asset using the provided screws. If you choose to fasten the device with your own screws, use the following recommendations for screw size to avoid damage to the device mounting tabs:
-
Screw size: #6 (Imperial), M3.5 (Metric)
-
Shank diameter: </= 3.6mm (0.13 inch)
-
Head diameter: </= 8mm (0.31 inch)
-
To purchase additional screws, visit the following recommended supplier websites: Metric, Imperial, rivet style, self-drilling/tapping
-
-
Plug the cable into the AG and twist to secure.
-
Run the length of the cable to the 7-way connector and use the zip ties to fasten the cable to the trailer.
-
Connect the wires on the other end of the cable to the 7-way connector:
-
Connect the White wire (ground) to negative.
-
Connect the Brown wire (head/tail lights) to 9-31 VDC power.
-
Connect the Blue wire (ABS/Constant Power) to 9-31 VDC power.
-
Cap the unused Green/White wire (Input 0).
-
-
Cap any unused wires.
-
Complete the AG52 Device Setup.
-
Manage the trailer from the Samsara dashboard.
Note
If you observe a cable error when you install the AG with the installer app, disconnect and reconnect the cable to the AG. Ensure the cable is correctly aligned with the 7-way connector and securely locked onto the asset gateway.
