Configure a Focus Mode Template

As part of your Mobile Experience Management (MEM) policy you can choose a Focus Mode template. Currently, Samsara supports only Motion Configuration as a Focus Mode template.

Each Motion Configuration template specifies the thresholds that activate and deactivate the motion screen. The Motion Configuration template can help reduce distracted driving by limiting device access and silencing incoming notifications while the vehicle is in motion.

After the device deactivates the In-Motion screen, it will return to the home screen of the device rather than the last application that was open.

To configure a template:

1. Select the Settings icon ( ) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.

2. In MEM, select Display.

   On the Focus Mode tab, you can view all of your Motion Configurations.

   

3. Add a new Motion Configuration or click the three dots in the row of an existing configuration to Edit it.

   

4. Configure the settings for your template:

   • Template Name: Enter a descriptive name for your template.

   • In-Motion Screen: The application to launch when the In-Motion Screen is activated, including:

     • Samsara Launcher Driving Screen: Display the default launcher driving screen that includes only apps set in associated policy to be available while moving.

     • Samsara Driver HOS Driving Screen (available only if the Samsara Driver App is installed in your MEM policy): Display Drive mode HOS dials in the Driver app.

     • Specific App: Display a specific application that is included in the MEM policy.

   • Thresholds: Specify the speed and time duration that will activate and deactivate the In-Motion Screen.

5. Edit or Add Motion Configuration when you are done making changes to the template.

6. Select the Motion Configuration template when you Configure Safety Settings and deploy it to your managed devices.

   If you edit and save a template that is already assigned to devices, the devices will automatically receive the template with the next policy update.
