If desired, you can enable audio recording on a per-camera basis to listen to the audio captured by cameras while viewing the camera stream. When there are disputes or other interactions of interest between people happen in the workplace, audio review can help you to understand what really happened. In many cases, audio review can empower you to resolve conflicts and document inappropriate behavior. This can save your organization money on wrongful firing lawsuits, help investigate harassment claims, and lower insurance premiums.
Warning
Before enabling audio recording, consider any federal and local laws that may apply to your use of this feature. These laws may require that you notify and collect consent from your employees before enabling audio recording at your sites.
Enabling audio recording increases the amount of data stored. Compared to video storage, the footprint is fairly minimal. Enabling audio recording for a camera typically adds around 86 MB per day to Site Gateway storage. For comparison, a typical 1080p stream uses 48 GB of Site Gateway storage per day, so audio recording increases that by around 0.2%. The amount of storage needed for audio stays constant regardless of video resolution.
