Keeping your MEM organization active

Update as of Oct 13, 2023

Google made an announcement on Oct 13, 2023 that they will no longer be deactivating inactive emails as long as it is associated with MEM. Therefore, your organization is not at risk even if you do not activate your emails by Dec 1. However, we still encourage you to keep your emails active and add backup accounts. 

You can follow this link (must be opened while logged into the email used to enroll the org) to manage account settings including adding backup emails in the admins section.

What to do if you can’t remember your associated Gmail address with MEM: Submit a Samsara support ticket and our team will reach out to Google on your behalf to confirm the correct Gmail address you used to set up MEM (estimated response time from Google: 1-2 weeks).

Why is this important to your operations

Customers must use a Google personal email account to enroll their organizations into MEM since GSuite accounts are not supported. As a result, customers may have used admins’ personal gmail, or registered a new gmail for org enrollment purposes that they don’t use on a regular basis.

Google has recently started rolling out a new inactive google account policy wherein a Gmail account that doesn’t show any activity over a period of 2 years will be marked inactive and may be deleted at Google’s discretion any time after December 1, 2023. Per Google, MEM activities (or any activities from other MDM providers) do not count towards email activity.

This creates major risk for your organization: if the email used for MEM enrollment gets deactivated, you will lose all of the policy settings and all of the devices will be factory reset. In addition, there is no recovery path. You will need to re-enroll your organization and your devices similar to a first-time MEM setup.

How to keep an account active

Customers must log into the email they used for MEM enrollment and perform one of the below actions before Dec 1, 2023

• ​​Reading or sending an email

• Using Google Drive

• Watching a YouTube video

• Sharing a photo

• Downloading an app

• Using Google Search

• Using Sign in with Google to sign in to a third-party app or service

If you do not remember which email you used for enrolling your org, please reach out to Samsara's support team. We will reach out to Google on your behalf, but keep in mind that the process may take 2 weeks.
